Except for the fact Sophie was out of town playing volleyball, Sunday was like a rare gift--balmy weather, a relaxed pace, filled with love from family and friends.
There was a birthday boy.
And the making of two cakes.
I don't know why we made two...I think my nephew had trouble narrowing down a flavor.
Little did he know I would have made him ALL the flavors!
Decorating cakes like this was a nice reminder of the way my mum used to do things.
An unexpected gift: storytime.
Izzy made this butterfly to add to our museum of curiosities. Sophie made the box. The papercut in the first picture is from Caroline. These gifts touched me deeply, not just for how delightful they are, but because my girls knew I would love them.
I know we are midway through another week, that Mother's Day is good and done, yet I'm only now just acknowledging it. Somehow that seems very characteristic of me. But as I mentioned earlier, every day should be an exercise in caring for others, every day should honor the ideals we hold up on special occasions throughout the year.
In that regard, I guess you could say my timing is spot on.
